Newberg Massage & Wellness Spa
Personalized massage therapy in the heart of Yamhill County wine country. Serving Newberg and surrounding communities since 2008.
Massage Therapy in Newberg, Backed by Evidence
Massage therapy is a hands-on treatment that involves manipulating the soft tissues of the body to ease tension, quiet the nervous system, and support recovery. At Oregon Massage & Spa Newberg, a standard session runs 60 minutes, with 90-minute appointments when you want more time on a stubborn shoulder or low back. We have served Yamhill County and the Willamette wine country since 2008, and we hold a 4.8-star rating from more than 558 verified clients.
Massage is more mainstream than many people assume. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health reports that 10.9 percent of U.S. adults used massage therapy in 2022 — more than double the 4.8 percent who used it in 2002. Every session here is performed by licensed massage therapists (LMTs), and you can compare our massage services and prices before you book.

What Massage Can Help With — and What the Research Actually Says
Most people book a massage to feel less stressed and less sore, and the research supports both goals when expectations stay realistic. The American Massage Therapy Association position statement holds that massage therapy can improve health and wellness through its effects on a person's physical, mental, and social well-being. The studies it points to suggest massage may help with anxiety, lower blood pressure, reduced pain, better range of motion, and improved quality of sleep. Massage is a complement to medical care, not a replacement, so keep your doctor in the loop for any ongoing condition.
What the evidence suggests by goal
| If you are dealing with | A common approach | What studies suggest |
|---|---|---|
| Neck and shoulder tension | Swedish or deep tissue | A 2013 review of 12 studies (757 participants) found massage more helpful than inactive therapies for neck and shoulder pain; the shoulder benefits were short-term. |
| Fibromyalgia and widespread aches | Gentle therapeutic massage | A 2014 evaluation of 9 studies (404 participants) concluded massage continued for at least 5 weeks may improve pain, anxiety, and depression, though it did not change sleep disturbance. |
| Everyday stress and tight muscles | Relaxation or Swedish massage | Research suggests regular sessions may lower stress and ease muscle tension; effects are typically short-term, so consistency over weeks matters more than one visit. |
What to expect on your first visit
- A short intake: your LMT asks about health history, problem areas, and how much pressure you prefer.
- You undress to your comfort level in private and lie under a sheet; only the area being worked on is uncovered.
- The therapist works the soft tissue for your booked time, most often a 60- or 90-minute session, adjusting pressure as you give feedback.
- Afterward, drink water and move gently. Mild soreness for a day is normal, much like after exercise.
Is massage safe? For most healthy adults, yes. The risk of harmful effects from massage appears to be low, though rare serious side effects have been reported, usually with very vigorous techniques such as deep tissue work or in people who are already at higher risk of injury. We tailor pressure to each client, and we will adjust or postpone a session if a health issue calls for it. If you are pregnant, recovering from an injury, or managing a chronic condition, tell us at booking so we can plan appropriately.
We are open Monday through Saturday 9am to 8:30pm and Sunday 9am to 7pm, on the second floor at 901 Brutscher St 208 in Newberg. New here?
